HELPING TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD FOR WORKING FAMILIES IN THE DC METRO AREA

Child Care Counts promotes economic mobility for low-income families by addressing child care needs.   We provide direct assistance for child care costs of young children in the greater Washington DC area so parents can pursue better career opportunities.  These supports, along with ongoing financial planning, help parents build long-term prosperity and set up children for success.

Interested in hosting an event to help support our mission?  We have lots of ideas and would love to work with you!

Every child deserves a safe, nurturing, and loving environment to grow and develop in. Child Care Counts is committed to providing working families with the support they need to make this possible.

Our Commitment to Local Working Families

Unfortunate news for low-income families applying for a child care scholarship

Due to overwhelming numbers of children currently using state and county child care scholarships, some local jurisdictions' have issued temporary freezes for new applicants.  If a family has a current voucher, as long as they keep it updated, they are not impacted.  Unfortunately, for families just starting out on their child-raising journey, they can still apply but will be placed on a wait list.

This will negatively impact our area economy because it will prevent some parents from being able to work and support their families.  It also impacts Child Care Counts because we rely on the ability for most of our families to be able to obtain a state or county voucher/scholarship that we stack on top of. Without that voucher/scholarship, we can't make up for the $19,000 - $25,000 that the voucher would pay.
